Public space is where communal culture is created. Places with abundant public space are happier and safer. Increasing access to public space must be a priority for towns and cities everywhere.
This photo collection from around the world captures a variety of public spaces from large to small, busy to quiet, mostly successful (although we’ve thrown a dud or two in there as well.) Given that the best public space for connecting people is car-free and centrally-located the below photos mainly capture pedestrianized streets and squares as opposed to parks and sidewalks.
